SUPERINTENDENT’S MESSAGE OF THANKS

The Thanksgiving holiday is once again upon us, and it never fails to call to mind the many selfless acts our students and you, their role models, perform each and every day. Again this season, we find that our students are simply amazing! In the just-released issue of Everett Schools, I referred to that generosity. Under your mentorship, they are role models of community leadership and of giving spirit.

As we saw yesterday, student enthusiasm for doing the right thing is contagious. With school closed and hundreds of Everett High School families depending upon delivery of collected food, the community turned out with four-wheel drive vehicles, carts, dollies and strong backs to ensure that food deliveries were made safely and on time – just as they did two years ago when Cascade High students faced the same weather-caused delivery dilemma for their food deliveries.

As we enter this season, more students’ generosity toward others will be both visible and remarkable. Each new story about schools, groups of students, and our staff members contributing so much to help others is another reason for pride in students, accolades to you for inspiring them and gratitude for living in this supportive community.

Thank you so very much for modeling generosity through your many investments in our community, especially in early response to this year's United Way campaign. Dec. 1 is set as the deadline for district staff donations, and early campaign results indicates we’ve responded enthusiastically to our community's rallying call to “Give another 10” for those in such desperate need. If you haven't returned your United Way pledge form, no matter what you are contributing – dollars, volunteer time, advocacy for others – your contribution matters to those who are most affected by our recovering economy. Thank you for making others' Thanksgivings a good memory.

As you venture forth on your Thanksgiving holiday this weekend, please travel and celebrate safely! So many depend on you and what you do to make their lives better! As Sue and I travel to spend time with dear ones, we wish you the very warmest of Thanksgiving holidays with those you love. Take care!
